“This place rocks!!!  Came in late with 3 kg of laundry. Told then to wash tech woolens in cold water along with other laundry. 2 hours later everything was done and folded. Also asked for NO PERFUME, and they honored my request. Just a FYI, they do not have space to hang dry, so they returned the woolens spun dry and damp....for me to hang in my bathroom, just like they promised. Perfect!!!”

The Ultimate Guide to Hanoi's "Laundry Near Me" Services

another "laundry near me" spot in Hanoi

You’re exploring ancient streets, slurping up all the phở, hopping bars faster than Bugs Bunny, but then it hits you: laundry day.

Again. Don’t stress! Hanoi actually makes laundry surprisingly easy if you know a few tricks. Here’s my tried-and-tested guide to keeping your clothes clean:

1. Choosing the Right Service

  • Hotel Laundry: Convenient? Yes. Budget-friendly? Not always. Upscale hotels may charge up to $5 USD/kg or even per item. If you're in a pinch, go for it — just be ready to splurge.
  • Local Laundromats: Way more affordable (think $1–2 USD/kg), and often just a short walk away. These are perfect for budget travelers or anyone staying more than a few days.

2. Service Expectations

  • Turnaround Time: Most places offer 24-hour service, but if you’re racing to catch that sleeper train, ask about express options (available for a small extra fee).
  • Check Reviews First: Most are solid, but laundry horror stories exist. Google or ask fellow travelers for a spot that won’t turn your white tee pink.

3. Preparing Your Laundry

  • Make a List: Jot down what you're handing over — just in case. Some places are super organized, some… less so.
  • Delicates? Say Something: If you’ve got linen, silk, or anything that hates heat, be clear. Use a translation app if needed!

4. Pricing Insights

  • Per Kilogram: Most local shops price by weight — efficient and cost-effective, especially if you’ve been hoarding laundry since Hoi An.
  • Per Item: Common at hotels or high-end services. Works for small loads but adds up fast if you’re doing a whole backpack.

5. Weather Considerations

  • Rainy Season Woes: Hanoi gets very humid. If it’s monsoon season, expect potential delays in drying. Some shops use dryers, others air-dry — ask first if time’s tight.

6. Additional Smart Tips

  • Double-Check Opening Hours: Some shops take midday breaks or close early. Confirm drop-off/pick-up times to avoid standing in the rain outside a shuttered storefront.
  • Language Barrier: Not everyone speaks English. A few Vietnamese phrases or a translation app (like Google Translate) can be a lifesaver.

7. Operating Hours: Flexibility is Key

  • Family-Run Vibes: Many laundromats are locally owned, meaning hours may shift around family life, Tet holidays, or spontaneous closures. Flexibility (and patience) go a long way.
  • 24/7 Self-Service Options: If you're a night owl or arriving late from a Ha Long Bay trip, check out self-service laundromats like Koi Wash Coin Laundry — they run around the clock and let you DIY at your own pace.

8. Utilize Google Like a Local

  • Google Business Profiles = Gold: Before you go, check the shop’s Google listing for updated hours, service types (wash & fold, dry cleaning, shoe cleaning!), and — most importantly — recent reviews.
  • Photos Help Too: If a place looks clean, well-lit, and has clear signage, you’re probably in good hands. Bonus if someone mentions friendly staff.

9. Beware the Mystery Detergent

Some places use strong-smelling detergent (think: lavender exploded). If you’ve got sensitive skin or a sensitive nose, ask if you can provide your own. Most are cool with it if you ask nicely.

🎒 Final tip from your travelling friend: Always check your pockets (bye-bye, soggy cash), pack a small laundry bag, and keep a few detergent sheets on hand just in case you’re venturing off-grid.

Clean clothes = clear mind. Now go enjoy Hanoi without smelling like yesterday’s trekking socks ✌️
