✨ Why Join This Trip?

Escape the city and discover some of Vietnam’s most jaw-dropping sights. On this 3-day Ban Gioc tour, you’ll visit:

  • Ba Be Lake – Vietnam’s largest natural freshwater lake
  • Ban Gioc Waterfall – the 4th widest waterfall in the world
  • Nguom Ngao Cave – a stunning limestone cave full of secrets
  • Local ethnic villages – home to the Tay and Nung minorities
  • Historic mountain passes – including Chi Lang, once the “Gate of Monsters”

It’s part nature escape, part cultural deep dive — and a total refresh for the soul.

🛶 Day 1: From Hanoi to Ba Be National Park

Activities: Boat ride, kayaking, short hike, BBQ dinner

Overnight: Homestay in Ba Be

Meals included: Lunch & Dinner

We’ll leave Hanoi around 7:30 AM and make our way north to Ba Be National Park in Bac Kan province. This peaceful region is a haven of limestone mountains, lush jungle, and mirror-like lakes. After a warm welcome from your host at a local homestay and a tasty lunch, it’s time to hit the water.

Hop on a boat and glide across the calm surface of Ba Be Lake, stopping at iconic spots like:

  • Widow Island, with its haunting legend
  • Cam Village, a charming Tay settlement
  • An Ma Temple, sitting quietly on the water’s edge

Later, stretch your legs on a short forest hike to a lookout point. If the weather’s on our side, enjoy a serene kayaking session as the sun sets — then gather around the fire for a BBQ dinner with your local hosts.

🏞 Day 2: Ba Be to Ban Gioc Waterfall

Activities: Nguom Ngao Cave, frontier views, bamboo boat ride

Overnight: Ethnic Nung homestay

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Today, we head deeper into Vietnam’s northern frontier. After breakfast, we drive through the scenic Cao Bang province — a region shaped by time, war, and nature.

Stop for lunch in Quang Uyen, home to the Nung ethnic minority. These communities have held onto their traditional lifestyles, giving you a rare window into a different Vietnam.

Next up: a descent into Nguom Ngao Cave, a jaw-dropping underground world filled with ancient stalactites. Then — the grand finale of your Ban Gioc tour — we reach Ban Gioc Waterfall.

🌊 Set on the border of China and Vietnam, this 300-meter-wide waterfall is a thundering display of natural power. Hop on a bamboo raft to get up close (you will feel the spray!) and soak in the postcard-perfect views.

We’ll spend the evening in a Nung village, where you can share stories over a home-cooked meal and learn about their daily life.

🏯 Day 3: Ban Gioc to Lang Son and Back to Hanoi

Activities: Historic sites, mountain passes, local legends

Meals included: Breakfast & Lunch

Your final day takes a more historic turn, beginning with a scenic drive through winding passes toward Lang Son. Along the way, we’ll visit:

  • Mother’s Temple, a quiet spiritual site
  • Dong Khe, where the First Indochina War began
  • Chi Lang Pass, a dramatic gorge once known as Vietnam’s strongest citadel
  • Quy Mon Quan, or “Gate of Monsters” — a legendary point of defense against invasions

Stand where ancient battles were fought and hear stories of bravery and resilience. After lunch in Lang Son, we make our way back to Hanoi — heads full of stories, phones full of photos, and hearts full of adventure.

✅ What scams might occur, and how can I avoid them?

Vietnam is a captivating destination, but like many popular tourist spots, it has its share of scams. Being informed can help you navigate safely and enjoy your trip. Here are some common scams to watch out for and tips on how to avoid them:

Transportation Scams

  • Unlicensed Taxis: Some taxis may not use meters or might take longer routes to inflate fares. Avoidance Tip: Use reputable ride-hailing apps like Grab or Xanh SM for transparent pricing.
  • Cyclo Overcharging: Cyclo drivers might offer a ride without discussing the price, then demand an exorbitant fee at the end. Avoidance Tip: Always agree on a fare before starting the ride.

Street Vendor Scams

  • Unsolicited Samples: Vendors may offer free samples and then charge you unexpectedly. Avoidance Tip: Politely decline unsolicited offers.
  • Shoe Shine Scam: Someone points out dirt on your shoes and starts cleaning them without consent, then demands payment. Avoidance Tip: Firmly decline any unsolicited services.

Currency and Payment Scams

  • Currency Confusion: Vietnamese dong notes can look similar, leading to overpayment. Avoidance Tip: Familiarize yourself with the currency and double-check notes during transactions.
  • ATM Skimming: Hidden devices can capture your card information. Avoidance Tip: Use ATMs located inside banks and cover the keypad when entering your PIN.

Accommodation and Tour Scams

  • Fake Hotel Claims: Taxi drivers may falsely claim your hotel is closed and take you to a different one for a commission. Avoidance Tip: Insist on going to your booked hotel and contact them directly if in doubt.
  • Tour Operator Scams: Some operators might offer subpar services or not deliver as promised. Avoidance Tip: Book tours through reputable agencies and read reviews beforehand.

Online and Digital Scams

  • Fake eVisa Websites: Scammers create websites resembling official visa portals. Avoidance Tip: Only apply for visas through the official government site: https://evisa.gov.vn/.
  • Public Wi-Fi Risks: Unsecured networks can be used to steal personal information. Avoidance Tip: Avoid accessing sensitive information on public Wi-Fi; use a VPN if necessary.

Miscellaneous Scams

  • Fake Monks or Charity Collectors: Individuals posing as monks or charity workers may solicit donations. Avoidance Tip: Politely decline and donate only to recognized organizations.
  • Overpriced SIM Cards: Vendors may sell SIM cards at inflated prices. Avoidance Tip: Purchase SIM cards from official stores or authorized dealers.

Staying vigilant and informed is key to a safe and enjoyable trip to Vietnam. Always trust your instincts, and when in doubt, seek assistance from official sources or your accommodation.
